case study
AEI Music

AEI Music is our newest client of the Safe Place Project. AEI is a record label that backs independent artists and labels through their people, community and technology. AEI Music founded UKF, SubSoul, NCS and many more groundbreaking labels.

After years of engaging with our community and listening to their experiences of inequality in the workplace we have finally started our new branch of the Safe Place Project regarding Workplace Inclusivity. We had the privilege of delivering a comprehensive training session to the board members of AEI Music, delving into crucial topics such as recognising and addressing gaslighting, mansplaining, unequal talking time in meetings, and the importance of flexible working patterns. We provided the AEI leadership team with the tools and knowledge needed to champion diversity, empowerment, and genuine inclusivity within the organisation.

The training session started by identifying and addressing common workplace challenges that can hinder inclusivity in our workforce, such as gaslighting and mansplaining. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, gaining insights into recognising these behaviours and implementing strategies to mitigate their impact. Unequal talking time in meetings, often a symptom of underlying power imbalances, was also addressed, emphasising the need for equal participation and contribution from all team members.

A key focal point of the training was exploring the dynamics of communication within the workplace. We emphasised the importance of dismantling communication barriers that lead to some voices dominating conversations. We had active conversations with board members on how to encourage and create an environment where every individual, regardless of position or background, feels empowered to express their thoughts and ideas.

‘Della and Elysia from the Egalitarian have been awesome and inspiring to work with. The two of them help us to create and then deliver a truly impactful Inclusive Leadership workshop for the AEI Music Leadership Team. True inclusivity isn't just about words, but being an active ally means creating actionable opportunities to affect change, and as a business we have committed to actively seeking out and nurturing diverse talent’ - George Horn, Head of People and Culture at AEI Music.
