case study
The Fenton

We visited the The Fenton, an iconic pub on the famous Otley Run in Leeds. We had some important discussions with bar staff and management on how to identify, prevent and respond to spiking and safeguarding issues in the night time economy.

We trained The Fenton staff how to create a safe and anti-spiking environment, acknowledging how safeguarding incidents arise on a night out and learning how to be proactive in identifying risk. We talked about the importance of opening up the conversation to empower victims and deter perpetrators. We then applied these tools to real life scenarios submitted through our social media or on Spike Report. Staff were great in collaborating to find solutions to vulnerability and are looking forward to implementing them in practice, particularly given their position as one of the final pubs of the Otley Run.

The group work was incredibly constructive and what I enjoyed most about our session. The input from the trainers to guide the group discussions was really valuable. It was also really helpful to feel safe enough to chat about previous experiences of our own to have really in depth and useful conversations about ways to combat spiking and dangerous behaviour. The advice about keeping evidence in a spiking situation and how to implement victim support was very helpful.
