Our comments policy
One of our main goals for this site is to enlighten readers and trigger debate, we therefore encourage comments, replies and discussion on our articles from everyone. We have however decided to regulate/monitor comments by requiring our approval prior to going live on our website. We are a new site and therefore, this is currently a trial and we will review this decision after a few of our articles have been published and comments have been coming through.
We believe that, as creators of this website we have a social responsibility to monitor what is on our site and protect our users from harmful content.
Our policy will be to allow all comments to be published onto our site, unless they can be categorised as:
A crime or inciting criminal behaviour
Fake news, also known as junk news, pseudo-news, alternative facts or hoax news.
We ask for your full name and email address prior to commenting on any of the articles on our site or signing up to our newsletter. This is so that when people comment, some accountability is there for what they write. We feel that this creates a safe environment in the comments where people cannot comment with impunity of what they are saying, and will encourage respectful and interesting debate without harm. We require email addresses for communication if you sign up to our newsletter. We ask you for permission to send you our newsletters when you sign up.
We aim for our newsletters to be monthly, but they may not be that recurrent. They certainly won’t be any more regular than monthly and we hope this means people will not feel swamped by any information we give them, rather that our audience look forward to seeing what we have in store.
The way we hold and store your data is fully compliant with the new GDPR rules as of 2018. We store this information on an internal database which is protected and not accessible to anyone outside of those running The Egalitarian. We have taken the minimal details from you that we believe is required to comment or receive newsletters and we hope you agree. If you wish to be removed from our mailing list or private database, or have any other questions, please send an email to email@example.com and we will deal with the request.
We do not sell your data and we do not share your data unless compelled by law.
